My Precious Child

My Precious Child
I would like to borrow a quote from Elizabeth Stone who said “Motherhood is to decide forever to have your heart walking around outside your body”.
To watch my precious daughter at 13 months of age suffer anaphylaxis was my real life nightmare. The minutes before the ambulance arrived, the trip into hospital, stopping along the way to administer the life saving adrenaline………the experience will forever be carved into my memory.
I now fight a constant inner battle on how best to care for her without being overprotective, to try and stop myself from hovering around her in social, eating situations where she is surrounded by food.
I pray that I will always be vigilant and on alert when feeding my daughter, even at the expense of how that is perceived by others. My greatest fear is then that someone else will unintentionally provide her with food she is allergic to or even touch her after they have eaten an allergen. I know that I will not always be around her when she eats.
It was my mother’s suggestion that I hang a sign around my daughter’s neck stating she was allergic to nuts and eggs that was the inspiration behind Precious Children. Through the t-shirts I wanted to convey a serious message while at the same time create clothing which was fun to wear. I wanted to protect my daughter and the sons and daughters of other parents who find themselves in the same situation.
I also wanted to help raise the awareness of the general public to allergies. Since they can be hazardous and even fatal it is so important that this is a very visible issue.
Ultimately, I would like to think that one day there may be a cure for food allergies and Precious Children donates a percentage of their profits towards research.
It is my sincere prayer that your child is kept safe, that through greater public awareness accidental reactions to allergens decreases and that through continued research we find a way to prevent these allergic reactions from happening in the first place.
